1. When are submissions due?
The submission deadline for GWUR Volume 8 will be in early spring 2026. You may submit your paper at any point. Directions for submission can be found on the "Submit Now" page.
2. Who can submit to GWUR?
Any current or former GW student can submit to GWUR. If you are no longer at GW, the research you submit to GWUR must have been done while you were a student at GW.
3. Can I submit work to GWUR which will later be submitted to a professional journal?
GWUR does not have a rule preventing you from publishing your work elsewhere; however, most professional journals have guidelines as to the amount of content which must be original within a paper. If you are unsure if you have permission to submit your work to GWUR, meet with your mentor to discuss publication plans. In addition to full papers, GWUR does accept research overviews. If you submit a research overview to GWUR, you should be able to later publish your work at a professional journal. Different journals have different rules, and you should consult their publishing guidelines, as well as your mentor, before submitting work to GWUR. Please contact [email protected] for a copy of our author agreement.
4. I am a GW student, but I did not do the research for my paper at GW. Can I submit to GWUR?
Any work conducted while you were enrolled at GW may be submitted for consideration, even if it was not conducted on a GW campus. If you have graduated, you may submit work conducted while you were enrolled at GW. You may not submit work to GWUR conducted before or after your time at GW. Be sure you have permission from your mentor to publish the research.
5. I have questions about my paper. Can I meet with GWUR to strengthen my paper before submitting?
Yes! You have two options: 1) email your draft to [email protected] or 2) schedule an appointment with us.
6. I wrote a research paper or literature review for a class. Can I submit that to GWUR?
Yes. We welcome any research paper or literature review written by a GW student while they were at GW.
7. What does the review process look like?
To maintain fairness and quality, GWUR uses a double-blind review process:
